That was rather whiny in itself.

And it always make me chuckle when people mention “liberal arts colleges” as if they were incubators of radical leftist liberal thinking. Some words have more than one meaning!

I haven’t trudged all over a liberal arts campus for going on thirty years, and consistently voted GOP the duration. I, for one, broke from my GOP standard and voted for Obama in 2008 because the thought of an aging old school panderer and his nearly-illiterate fundie sidekick in the White House was even less palatable than Mr. Hope N Change, who was at least intelligent. (I came to realize the pitfalls of voting for C students after two terms of W, thank you very much.)

Maybe these liberals you mention don’t have the stomach to go head to head with the GOPs in the coming elections, but I sure as hell do. I have no illusions about reforming the GOP, as I believe it’s past salvation, but I do have the intention of being involved with my local Dems, because I believe as an ex GOP maybe I (and other disenchanted ex-GOpers) can help the party get its shit together and maybe “butch up” enough to stop the hoping, and get on with the changing.

Don’t discount the Dems’ ability to mobilize again. I’m banking on it.

Hey, bobbitu -
It looks like you wrote this, but now I see you’ve quoted the article.

You might make quotes more obvious when you post pages.

Point well taken dear Queen of Everything. The SF Chronicle has yet to publish any of my writings. ;-)

I’m as hard left as they come, but I can’t help thinking that the Democrats made their own bed here. ACORN was one of the most effective mechanisms of enrolling and enfranchising poor, minority and/or young voters, voters who tend to vote Democrat. So what do the Dems do? Defund and destroy ACORN on the basis of a bogus video. And they’re surprised their voters didn’t turn out in mid-terms? Cause, meet effect.
